1993... having the previous year completed Sex, his brilliant collaboration with Madonna – Steven Meisel is set to embark on a veritable blizzard of creativity. Over the next twelve months, he will shoot 28 Vogue covers, over 100 editorial stories including a 60-page special on men’s fashion for Per Lui.
This was a moment of inspiration and perfection for Steven. ‘I need to be inspired by great clothes and back then there were so many great designers. It was fashion, fashion, fashion – a great time to be involved with fashion, clothes-wise.’
Magic and
transformation
The exhibition was a grand parade of over 100 classic portraits that are by turns classic, subversive, witty and warm. In each of them Steven brilliantly captured the individual qualities of his subject. They were some of the most important and interesting fashion photographs ever made.
